State of Decay 2 should look clear and highly-detailed on Xbox One X.
State of Decay 2 is coming out in a couple of months and IGN managed to get details about the game's Xbox One X version ahead of time. According to Undead Labs, State of Decay 2 not only runs at 4K resolution on Microsoft's newest console, but also features various other graphical upgrades.
Undead Labs studio head and executive producer Jeff Strain said the following when the outlet asked him about the Xbox One X.
There are significant visual enhancements we're able to deliver thanks to the Xbox One X. Extra memory and greater processing power gives us a more stable frame rate and let's us do more with higher resolution textures. When you're in the game, you'll immediately see the difference – denser foliage, detailed shadows, depth of light from farther distances, and more detailed character models. It makes the world feel more crisp, vibrant, and like real life. And of course, it lets us run the game in 4K and HDR, which a lot of fans are excited about.
It's unclear if the "4K" refers to native 4K resolution, dynamic scaling, or a checkerboarded solution. We've reached out to Microsoft for clarification and shall update you as soon as we hear back. The original State of Decay was infamous for its jarring performance issues so hopefully the sequel will be a smooth experience on Xbox One X with the added effects. The increased foliage, better shadows, and high-resolution textures can be taxing on any system if significant optimization doesn't take place.
State of Decay 2 should launch on May 22, 2018 for Xbox One and Windows 10 as an Xbox Play Anywhere experience. According to Microsoft, the game will also be available at launch on Xbox Game Pass. The company confirmed a price point of $29.99 for the standard version and $49.99 for an ultimate edition.
Aside from that, developer Undead Labs confirmed that there are no plans to add microtransactions to the game even though the title starts at $29.99. Despite the fact that there are no plans at the moment, microtransactions might be added in the future to sustain development.
State of Decay 2 is a co-op multiplayer game which forces you to survive in the wake of a zombie apocalypse. Players have to work together, build bases, and form communities if they wish to survive in this hostile land. The first game — despite the fact that it suffered from numerous performance issues — garnered a significant following. Hopefully State of Decay 2 will be a polished experience when it launches in a few months.
