The yearly cadence of Call of Duty titles will see a return to the Black Ops series in October.
Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII (yes, IIII) is coming on October 12. The latest entry in the long-running series is being developed by Treyarch, and will mark a departure last year's World War II setting.
With merchandise leaks and a teaser from NBA star James Harden, all signs this week pointed to an impending announcement for Black Ops IIII. However, outside of a short teaser video, Activision isn't yet ready to talk specifics. Instead, Call of Duty fans will have to wait for a community reveal event on May 17.
Call of Duty: WWII was seen by many as a necessary reprieve from the science-fiction of its predecessor, Infinite Warfare, returning to a World War II setting for the first time since 2008. It remains to be seen exactly when Black Ops IIII wil ltake place, but Black Ops III was set in 2065, so we potentially could be seeing a return to a futuristic setting.
