Battlefield 1 is breaking records for EA more than a year after the game's launch.
Battlefield 1 came out on October 21, 2016, and has garnered a significant player following since then. The game has sold millions of units and has a substantial player base which remains active across Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.
Today, EA released its quarterly financial results in which it stated that Battlefield 1 has been played by more than 25 million gamers. Note that this is a player count and not sales figures because the number includes individuals who bought a used copy, game share on their consoles, or probably played during a free trial period. While sales numbers are in the millions, it's hard to pinpoint an exact amount because of these variables.
EA attributes this success to the fact that the game has been discounted numerous times since launch and has received aggressive post-launch support. For example, today Battlefield 1 received new content for the game's third expansion called Turning Tides. The first part of the expansion was released last month, and the new North Sea items are being rolled out to Premium Pass members today.
Battlefield 1 not only features an expansive multiplayer mode, but it also contains a campaign that puts you in the shoes of soldiers across Europe and North Africa. Players can participate in massive battles or test their combat proficiency in smaller arenas. The war is fought not only on the ground, but also in the air as you can pilot many historical aircraft and shoot your enemies down.
In our review of the game, we said, "after years of creating expansive warzones, Battlefield 1 has emerged as one of DICE's greatest titles to date. In terms of raw gameplay mechanics, a range of new concepts has been put in play, shaping a truly outstanding first-person shooter." If you're looking for a multiplayer game to sink countless hours into, then Battlefield 1 is worth a shot.
