Sonic Adventure 2 and Earth Defense Force 2017 come to Xbox backward compatibility

Two more games are headed to the Xbox backward compatibility program.

Xbox's Larry Hryb has announced that two more Xbox 360 titles, Sonic Adventure 2 and Earth Defense Force 2017, are now playable on Xbox One via the console's backward compatibility feature.

Sonic Adventure 2 is in good company, as it's the eleventh Sonic game to hit the backward compatible list. The game is another 3D Sonic title, once again following the titular speedster on a hunt for the Chaos Emeralds. This time, the story is split between heroes and villains, with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles fighting to save the world on one side, and Shadow, Doctor Eggman, and Rogue the Bat attempting to conquer it on the other. Sonic Adventure 2 was originally released as a Dreamcast title in 2001, but was re-released as an Xbox 360 Arcade title in 2012.

Earth Defense Force 2017, originally released in 2010, sees players attempting to save the world from alien invaders. After intercepting a radio transmission form extraterrestrials in 2014 and attempting to communicate with them, humans on earth set up the Earth Defense Force (EDF) in 2015. That turns out to be a good idea, as a fleet of alien ships arrives on earth in 2017 and begins eradicating human. Earth Defence Force 2017 lets you take part in the war as a member of the EDF, as you attempt to curb the alien invasion.

If you already owned either title for Xbox 360, you should be able to install them and start playing on your Xbox One now. Both titles are also available digitally on the Xbox 360 marketplace. And for more, be sure to check out our comprehensive list of backward compatible games.
