Practically everybody who games on Windows Phone 8 is either anxiously awaiting today’s release of Halo: Spartan Assault (carrier issues notwithstanding) or knee-deep in last week’s release of Order & Chaos Online (don’t miss our Beginner’s Guide!). But some players are still stuck on Windows Phone 7 or just won’t pay seven bucks for a game, and those poor souls need stuff to play too. Won’t the Xbox Red Stripe Deal of the Week come to their rescue?
Sure, I guess! This week’s Xbox sale game is a repeat as usual, having gone on sale back in October last year. geoDefense Swarm from Critical Thought Games is on sale for 99 cents, down from $2.99. The indie Red Stripe game deal is 10tons’ Tennis in the Face for $1.49. In the non-game zone we have a news reader app called Collector from Squallstar Studio, on sale for 99 cents.

geoDefense Swarm (Windows Phone 7 or 8)
Regular price: $2.99 Sale price: $.99 Download size: 4 MB (!) Store Link
geoDefense Swarm is the semi-sequel/spin-off to geoDefense, one of the most popular Xbox Windows Phone tower defense games. It’s not the official sequel as it takes the gameplay in a slightly different direction, plus an actual geoDefense 2 is coming to undisclosed platforms sometime in the future.
The key difference with Swarm is that enemies no longer travel along straight lines towards the player’s base. Instead, the entire playing field is made up of hexagons. Enemies can move anywhere along it, and players can put towers on most of those spaces. This gives you more freedom to build unique defenses… However, often times only one or two defenses will actually work, greatly reducing said freedom. As a result, Swarm is more challenging than its predecessor, and the difficulty of levels is still all over the place, with some Medium levels being tougher than harder ones, and all that jazz.
Still, geoDefense Swarm has the lovely neon graphics and fine assortment of towers that we loved from the first game, and some players love it just as much.
Tennis in the Face (Windows Phone 8)
Regular price: $2.99 Sale price: $1.49 Download size: MB Store Link
You’d think this would be a sports game, but you’d be dead wrong, fella. Actually, it’s sort of a physics puzzle game like Angry Birds. Take on the role of a heroic tennis player named Pete Pegassi who must save the city from evildoers using his balls of justice. In each level, Pete gets a fixed number of tennis balls or soda cans to peg at enemies with his racket. Your shots ricochet around the level, knocking out whichever foes they hit.
Tennis in the Face packs over 100 levels, fantastic artwork, and tons of personality. What else would you expect from indie favorite developer 10tons? Check out George’s review for more tennis-tacular details.
