Red Faction: Guerrilla is getting new life for modern consoles.
Today, THQ Nordic announced that Red Faction: Guerrilla will be fully "re-Mars-tered" and released on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4 in Q2 2018. Curiously, the game will go by the name of "Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered". It's unclear if the title will support PlayStation 4 Pro because the press release we received only mentions Xbox One X specifically.
The remaster features reworked graphics, improved shadow rendering, improved lighting, new shader and post-processing effects, and native 4K resolution on select devices. To get a taste of what to expect, be sure to check out the trailer for the original game.
The main goal in Red Faction: Guerrilla is to use destruction to your tactical advantage, setting ambushes or explosions to attack enemy strongholds and permanently modify the game environment. For example, you can blow holes in a wall or floor to set an ambush or escape, or take out a staircase to stop your pursuers.
Red Faction: Guerrilla is set fifty years after the climactic events of the original Red Faction. This new game allows players to take on the role of an insurgent fighter with the reestablished Red Faction movement as they battle for liberation from the oppressive Earth Defense Force. According to the developer, Red Faction: Guerrilla still defines the limits of destruction-based gameplay with a huge open world, fast-paced combat, and extensive physics-based destruction.
Lastly, Red Faction Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered features multiplayer. The package contains a variety of highly destructive multiplayer combat modes where you can blow up your friends or strangers.
