Just blow up your competition.
Today, publisher Wired Productions and developer Caged Element announced Grip. According to the companies, Grip is a ferociously fast, futuristic combat racer, and is expected to hit Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 in 2018. The game is currently available only on Steam Early Access and is expected to receive enhancements for Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro.
Grip was inspired by the popular Rollcage games that came out roughly twenty years ago. The project is built around Unreal Engine 4 so here's hoping that it's a polished experience even on consoles, which seem to struggle with the engine on numerous occasions. The game features partially destructible environments so a versatile foundation was required.
Aside from standard single-player gameplay, Grip features expansive multiplayer modes with online play and tense split-screen racing. The world of Grip is brutal and cutthroat to the core. Just to win is never enough, you're required to leave a trail of merciless destruction in your path as you unleash powerful weapons on your rivals.
Players can scale walls, ceilings, and other structures they come into contact with. In order to make sure you don't get hit by missiles or bullets, gamers must perform mind-blowing stunts. Grip also features the ability to endlessly customize your vehicles.
Chris Mallinson, the Game Director at Caged Element, issued the following statement alongside Grip's console reveal.
We're very excited to finally announce our partnership with Wired Productions today. Grip began as a passion project paying tribute to the great Rollcage games and racers of a past era, but it's now truly transformed into a fully-fledged, futuristic combat racer fit for this generation. We're extremely proud of the game and can't wait to unleash it later this year on all platforms. Combat racing is back, baby.
