Astroneer is an exploration-based game where you gather resources and explore the wonders many planets hold.
Astroneer launched in Xbox Game Preview many months ago and has since received a steady stream of updates. While many of them have introduced important features, yesterday's "Update 0.6.5" has to be one of the most significant ones. As always, the developer recommends starting a new save when playing new updates. Older saves should work, but will definitely trigger bugs.
Aside from fixing a number of bugs, Update 0.6.5 features visual upgrades for the Medium Rover and Large Rover. This includes new front and back slots which provide extra storage. The visual representation for Rover batteries has also been changed. This should make exploration slightly easier because you know more of what's going on with the vehicles. Modules can also now be unpacked on top of Rover bases enabling a kind of mobile station.
Driving Rovers was always a little cumbersome beforehand but their suspension system has been overhauled. This should make steering them much easier. However, getting Rovers has always been a difficult task to begin with, so the research costs relating to vehicles has been reduced. Now more players will be able to cruise planets in style.
Power seems to be the other focal point of Update 0.6.5. A three port "Splitter" object has been added to the game. The Splitter takes in a power line and creates up to two adjustable directed streams. To facilitate players, the representations of directional power have also been improved.
The developer promised more changes in the future, like even better steering and new hazards. Astroneer is a good game so far, but needs a lot of work. Hopefully it will continue to improve in the coming months as we approach a proper release.
