Planet Alpha looks gorgeous with its use of competing colors.
Today, publisher Team17 and developer Adrian Lazar announced Planet Alpha for Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4. The game is an atmospheric side-scrolling platformer which is coming out this year. According to the teams, the title combines fast maneuvers, creative puzzles, stealth mechanics, and a vivid art style to create an unforgettable experience.
Players awake on a strange alien world that is home to many mysterious, exotic flora and fauna. As you explore the world around you, you'll uncover the ability to rotate and control the planet. This is the first time we've seen a game where you have the ability to alter gravity by controlling an entire planet. Puzzle experiences like The Bridge have similar mechanics but on a much smaller scale.
Development on Planet Alpha began in 2013 with Adrian Lazar was working on his own game on the side. In 2015, he left his position at IO Interactive – the current developer behind the Hitman franchise and Kane and Lynch 2: Dog Days – to focus on Planet Alpha full time.
Lazar issued the following statement alongside his game's reveal.
Planet Alpha is the work of passion of a small but very ambitious team. We are building something special and we're putting everything we have into it. Developing the game for over four years has been a roller coaster, so when we looked for a publisher we were very selective... I am thrilled to have found in Team17 a partner who can offer us the resources that we need to bring this game to the players, but more importantly I'm excited to have a partner that truly believes in Planet Alpha as much as we do. I cannot wait to share our creation with the world.
The game looks quite unique so hopefully it'll live up to expectations when it launches later this year.
