Get those mechs ready and battle it out.

Today, publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Harebrained Schemes announced that preorders for Battletech were available on PC. According to the companies, Battletech is the first modern, turn-based tactical combat game set within the MechWarrior universe. The first MechWarrior game launched in 1989, and this new installment should launch in April 2018.

Battletech takes place in the year 3025 as the galaxy is trapped in a cycle of perpetual war. Battles are fought by noble houses with enormous, mechanized combat vehicles called BattleMechs. From a starfaring base of operations, the player commands a mercenary outfit of mechs and the MechWarriors who pilot them, struggling to stay afloat as they fight in a brutal interstellar civil war.

The trailer details Battletech's unique combat system and the tactical challenges players will face commanding building-sized war machines on the battlefield. Just like Titanfall, punching mechs also works rather well.

Jordan Weisman, the head of Harebrained Schemes, issued the following statement alongside the preorder announcement.

Battletech has been a passion project for our team and for the fans who helped to make it a reality. We have done our very best to deliver a tactical mech experience that will delight long-time fans and excite new players who have yet to enter the MechWarrior universe. We know players are anxious to get their hands on the final game, and Harebrained Schemes joins Paradox in our excitement to deliver this April.
