Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition demo now available on the Microsoft Store

Get an early peek at how Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition will perform on PC.

Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition isn't set to hit PCs until March 6, but you can now get a taste of the game a little early. A playable demo of the game is now available on Steam and the Microsoft Store, letting players get an early look at how it will run on their PCs.

Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition packs a number of visual enhancements intended to take advantage of the extra power available to PCs. Alongside 4K and 8K resolution support, the game will pack HDR10 (just as it does on consoles) along with Dolby Atmos support. Square Enix has also teased more life-like hair and shadows, along with more dynamic vegetation, fluid, fire, and smoke. The Windows Edition also throws in a first-person camera mode in addition to all current season pass content and more.

It's unclear from the description just how much of Final Fantasy XV is playable in the demo version, but Square Enix says the main difference is that sub-quests have been disabled. Apart from that, the demo looks like it will simply give an early look at the visual improvements tagging along.

Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition is currently scheduled to launch on March 6 and is available for preorder now on Steam and the Microsoft Store for $49.99. And if you plan to pick it up on the Microsoft Store, it appears that the game is integrated with Xbox Live, including cross-play with Xbox One users. Unfortunately, there's no Xbox Play Anywhere support, however.
