One of the RTS genre's classics is revamped and ready to roll.
It's a few months later than originally intended, but Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is finally here. Fans of the series can pick up the revamped classic now exclusively for Windows 10 on the Microsoft Store.
Age of Empires: Definitive Edition was originally set to launch in October of 2017, but Microsoft ended up pushing it back to a February 20 release to give it a little more time in the oven. The overhauled experience includes the same gameplay as the original, but with improved visuals and a few other tweaks. The most prominent immediately noticeable of the updates is that the game now includes high-resolution textures and 4K support. However, fans of the original will also notice an increased population limit, better unit pathfinding, new zoom levels, and improved animations. The soundtrack has also seen a boost with a re-recorded orchestral score.
Multiplayer play over LAN is still supported, but players will also be able to face off against one another over Xbox Live as well. The campaign has also been enhanced with narration for every mission.
Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is up for grabs now at the Microsoft Store for Windows 10 for $19.99. It's worth noting that, at release, some players have hit issues with launching the game from the Store. Fortunately there are some potential workarounds available, should you hit any snags.
