If the horrific world and grotesque creatures of The Evil Within 2 weren't already terrifying enough, you can now play the entire game in first-person mode.

It's Valentine's Day and, according to Bethesda, it's time to cuddle up closer to the nightmare in The Evil Within 2. Beforehand, aside from a few sections, the game was mostly a third-person action experience. However, now the entirety of The Evil Within 2 can be played in first-person mode on Xbox One, PC, and PlayStation 4.

First-person mode is available today due to the latest free update. Changing to first-person view is as simple as turning on the toggle in the menu. The publisher says that you'll be able to change this at any point, so you can experience the game however you like. Some gamers prefer the first-person perceptive because it enhances immersion, while others prefer third-person because it allows them to see more. Having this choice makes the title more accessible to a lot of players.

If you haven't played The Evil Within 2, you can download the free trial and play through the opening chapters of the game in the new first-person mode. Luckily, all progress carries over to the full game if you decide to eventually buy it.

The Evil Within 2 Producer Shinsaku Ohara issued the following statement alongside news of the first-person mode.

A lot of players like playing horror games in first-person, so for those who want to see some of the game's situations through Sebastian's eyes, it's a really neat experience. I think exploring Union in first-person makes the scale feel even bigger than it does when you're in third-person. Also, being able to see our environments and enemies up close allows players to get an even better look at how much effort went into their designs.

The game supports Xbox One X and pushes out native 1800p resolution. This is a significant upgrade over the PlayStation 4 Pro version which operates at 1260p. The difference in resolution means that Microsoft's machine produces a clearer image on 4K displays.

According to Bethesda, The Evil Within 2 is the latest evolution of survival horror from acclaimed developer Shinji Mikami. This time around detective Castellanos has lost it all. However, when given a chance to save his daughter, he descends once more into the nightmarish world of STEM. STEM is a collection of consciousness but their fears and insecurities make it into a hellish environment. As you progress through the campaign, horrifying threats emerge from every corner as the world twists and turns around you.
