Last week Monster Hunter: World made its worldwide debut, with a release across both Xbox One and PlayStation 4. As a franchise synonymous with Nintendo's platforms and earlier Sony consoles, this latest entry for current generation hardware brought major improvements to the scope and depth of its world. And with a rewarding gameplay loop, Monster Hunter: World is shaping up as one of the best entries yet.
Capcom has now announced that Monster Hunter: World has shipped five million copies between the two platforms worldwide. Counting both physical and digital versions of the game, these figures come over just a three-day period following its January 26 launch. This success sets a new record for the franchise over the period, bringing complete Monster Hunter sales to over 45 million units.
It should be noted that shipped copies don't directly translate to sales, meaning that five million represents a mix of copies shipped to retailers and actual digital purchases. Nevertheless, this still shows a promising debut for the franchise on these platforms.
