According to a report by VentureBeat, Eric Hirshberg, the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Activision Publishing, will leave his position in March 2018.

Hirshberg announced his departure internally at Activision, which was later confirmed publicly by the company. He has been CEO for the past eight years and oversaw the rise of franchises like Call of Duty and Destiny. Needless to say that he played a major role in the publisher's success.

In a statement issued to his employees, Hirshberg said the following about his tenure at Activision and his decision to leave.

Serving as Activision's CEO has been an honor and a thrill. This is an amazing company. One which routinely delivers epic experiences for our fans on a scale that no one else can. I have nothing but admiration for the incredible team I have had the privilege to lead. And I have nothing but appreciation for Bobby for giving me this transformational opportunity, and also for having the vision and conviction to champion a creative person for a leadership role on this scale.

It's unclear what Hirshberg's plans are for the future. Activision is actively looking for his replacement as the process should take some time. Bobby Kotick, the CEO of parent company Activision Blizzard, lauded Hirshberg tenure by pointing out the success his leadership. He issued the following statement.

During Eric's tenure we've had historic performance and great successes. He is an inspiring leader, and we will all miss his creativity and tenacity very much. He is leaving the team, the franchises and the business in a great place, and he goes with my full support and appreciation.

We wish Hirshberg the best of luck in his future endeavors.
