Civilization was originally created by legendary designer Sid Meier back in 1991.
The series consists of many turn-based strategy games in which you attempt to build an empire to stand the test of time. You must lead a civilization from the Stone Age to the Information Age while dealing with all of the challenges that accompany advancement. Players must wage war, master diplomacy, and take on history's greatest leaders in the struggle for supremacy.
According to the developer, Civilization VI offers new ways to engage with your world. Some of the changes in this iteration include cities that physically expand across the map, active research in culture and technology, and competing leaders with their own agendas. There are five ways to achieve victory in the game but they're not easy at all. Civilization VI also features many multiplayer modes so you can cooperate or compete with your friends if you want.
Rise and Fall is Civilization VI's first major expansion. It adds new choices, strategies, and challenges for players. This time around successful leadership can send a civilization into a prosperous Golden Age, but falling behind can usher in a horrifying Dark Age. However, there are countless ways to overcome these challenges by exercising caution instead of advancing your people as fast as you can.
Today, Firaxis Games released a new trailer for the Rise and Fall expansion which highlights all of the changes. It takes you through each new mechanic in great detail. Some of the main additions are as follows.
- One of the main mechanics in this expansion is Loyalty. You need to earn the Loyalty of your citizens to keep your borders intact, or inspire Loyalty among other civilizations to expand your empire. This is by far the biggest change which should make the game quite challenging.
- The new Governor system allows players to further customize and specialize their cities. Each of the unique governors has their own promotion tree which lends itself to different playstyles. This variety allows you to play the way you want to.
- Rise and Fall adds many new civilizations and leaders. Apart from that, there are new Wonders of the World to construct too.
The expansion features many other improvements to the overall gameplay as well. Hopefully it'll live up to expectations because Civilization VI set a bar for the franchise. When we reviewed Civilization VI over a year ago, we said that it "delivers a nearly flawless... experience that gives you everything you already love about the Civilization series, while adding new and interesting facets." Be sure to check out the expansion when it releases on February 8, 2018.
