Despite its age, the original Dark Souls is still an incredibly popular game and players have been asking for a remastered version for a while now.

Luckily, Bandai Namco heard gamers loud and clear and today invited them back to the treacherous land of Lordran with Dark Souls: Remastered. Dark Souls: Remastered will launch on May 25, 2018 for Xbox One, PC, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4 (PS4). The game also supports better visuals and a faster frame rate on Microsoft and Sony's new consoles. You can experience the rich world of Dark Souls in upscaled 4K resolution at 60 FPS when playing on an Xbox One X, PC, or PlayStation 4 Pro. The title runs at 1080p resolution at 30 FPS on the Nintendo Switch when docked to a television. It's unclear what the resolution and frame rate are on a standard Xbox One or PS4 at this point.

Dark Souls runs at 30 FPS on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 so the jump to 60 FPS should tighten up controls and make combat feel even better. Increasing the frame rate reduces input lag in many cases so taking on terrifying behemoths should be easier. The biggest difference console players will notice is probably their ability to dodge attacks with more precision at 60 FPS. It's similar to how fluid the combat feels in Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin on Xbox One and PS4 when compared to its last-generation versions.

Hidden in the world of Dark Souls: Remastered are nine online covenants to uncover that will motivate your online interactions. Whether you choose collaboration or confrontation is up to you. According to the publisher, up to six players can join together online to help or hurt each other throughout their quest. This is definitely a unique way to experience the game as it will probably introduce more chaos to the mix.

Dark Souls originally launched in 2011 and became somewhat of a sensation upon release. Not only did it garner critical acclaim, but its gameplay focused on upgrading and skillful combat attracted a significant following. The franchise kept on growing from there and sold more and more with subsequent entries.

Dark Souls is a third-person role-playing game which takes place in an open world connected by a central area known as the Firelink Shire. As much as is about skillful combat, there's a lot of exploration involved. The aim is to learn from your mistakes as you memorize each area and make you way to various boss encounters. Collecting souls and increasing your health, stamina or other attributes is key to success as you get ready for the final fight.
