Redout: Lightspeed Edition is an antigravity racing game which pays tribute to arcade titles of yesteryear.
According to the developer, it's designed to be an uncompromising, fast, tough and satisfying driving experience. The game features a single-player campaign that spans more than a hundred events, eleven game modes, and 35 tracks. The online multiplayer component lets you challenge your friends for the top spot in intense races.
When the game launched on Xbox One, it was somewhat of a disappointment because it featured muddy visuals and 30 FPS gameplay. On many occasions it couldn't even achieve that. Luckily, the title received an Xbox One X patch today which fixes many of these problems. According to the developer, Redout now runs at 4K 60 FPS on Microsoft's new console but employs dynamic resolution scaling to maintain the frame rate. According to WCCFtech, the PlayStation 4 Pro version has yet to receive its 4K update.
The game is now rendered in 4K and 60fps which is a ~4X increase over the standard Xbox One version. This resolution will provide superior image quality on 4K TVs and a crisper, super-sampled image on 1080p TVs.
It's great to see developers taking advantage of the Xbox One X to not only make the visuals pop, but also enhance the frame rate for an ideal experience. This is the first multiplayer game we know of where there's a frame rate boost alongside a resolution upgrade, as the standard Xbox One runs at 30 FPS. Hopefully this won't make those who own the game on a standard Xbox One feel like they're at a disadvantage.
