Chess Ultra just received an Xbox One X upgrade which adds 4K and HDR support to the console.

According to Ripstone, aside from "stunning 4K", the game features seamless online multiplayer and a Grandmaster-approved AI system. When we reviewed Chess Ultra, we praised it for its photorealistic graphics and single-player challenges. The game launched earlier this year for Xbox One, PC, virtual reality headsets, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation 4.

It's unclear if the game runs at native 4K resolution or features a checkerboarded solution like many PlayStation 4 Pro titles. Hopefully now that both versions have been upgraded to take advantage of their respective hardware, we'll see a true comparison between both platforms.

In Chess Ultra you can explore an array of intricately crafted environments and choose from a selection of iconic chess sets designed with both the modern and traditional chess player in mind. Whether you're a beginner or a veteran, the game has something to offer to players of all ages and ability. Demonstrate your skills in over eighty chess puzzles where you can rewrite the past by winning historic matches.

In order to further engage the community, Chess Ultra features overhauled local and online multiplayer modes. In addition, the game has comprehensive time controls. It also lets you spectate and compete in official Ripstone tournaments. If you're new to the game, Chess Ultra also contains in-depth tutorials to help you learn how to play.
