Ori and the Blind Forest is a modern cult classic as it tells a powerful story, features stunning visuals, and has tight gameplay mechanics.

However, what about the early stages of development? Recently, we stumbled upon a video on Twitter which showcased an early animation prototype of the game. Despite being graphically basic, the gameplay seems to be as tight and smooth as the final product. It's always interesting to see how titles evolve as they're usually radically different years later. In this case though, it seems as those the developer had the animation and look of the protagonist almost perfected even at an early stage. The best part is that Ori was just as cute even during the prototype phase.

In Ori and the Blind Forest, the forest of Nibel is dying. After a powerful storm sets a series of devastating events in motion, Ori must journey to find courage and confront a dark nemesis to save the habitat. The game tells the tale of a young orphaned fox-like creature destined for greatness through visually stunning environments and platforming. The title features hand-painted artwork, meticulously animated character performances, an orchestrated score, and dozens of other features.

Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition contains new areas and improved gameplay. Its sequel, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, was revealed at E3 2017. Ori and the Will of the Wisps seems like it tells another touching story which directly ties into the first game. Hopefully we'll know more about the game at E3 2018 or sooner.
