Today, Ubisoft announced that Update 1.8, called Resistance, is coming to The Division tomorrow, December 5, 2017. The update will be available on Xbox One, Windows PC, and PlayStation 4.

Coinciding with the release of Resistance, The Division is getting a free weekend event on all platforms from December 7 to December 10. Additionally, all The Division owners will have free access to all of the expansions from December 5 to December 10. This is designed to get new players interested in the game and tempt those who have stopped playing it to come back. The current free trial offer, which gives players access to the main game until they reach Level 8 or complete six hours of playtime, will be on hiatus during the free weekend but reinstated once the free weekend ends. All progress from the free weekend will carry over to the full game if players purchase it.

According to Ubisoft, Resistance is the largest free update for The Division and expands the game map with a new area accessible to all players called the West Side Pier. In addition to the variety of activities available across the whole map, West Side Pier will be home to two new game modes.

  • Resistance – In Resistance, different factions are teaming up for the first time to fight against Division agents. Varied computer-controlled enemies continuously spawn in waves as up to four agents try to survive for as long as they can. Enemies drop resources that can be used to either set up defenses or extend the battlefield. The more waves you complete, the better rewards you get.

  • Skirmish – In Skirmish, two teams of four human players compete against each other to get the highest number of kills before the timer expires. Teams earn points each time a downed enemy player is eliminated.

The update tweaks existing game modes as well and introduces a new social hub. There are improvements to the Underground expansion, a revamp of the rogue mechanics, and a new way to improve the statistics of your favorite equipment. These changes were desperately needed. It's great to see Ubisoft fixing the rogue agents and making sure equipment you've used for a while doesn't become obsolete.

The Division takes place weeks after a devastating pandemic sweeps through New York City on Black Friday. One by one, basic services fail and in only days, without food or water, society collapses into chaos. The Division, an autonomous unit of tactical agents leading seemingly ordinary lives, is activated to save society. The Division is an online open world action game where you discover a hostile and dynamic environment in which exploration and player progression are essential. The best part is you can team up with other players to investigate the sources of the virus and reclaim the city from the overwhelming turmoil.
