Final Fantasy XV will soon let you play as Noctis' ever-present compatriots at any time.
A year since its release, Final Fantasy XV is gearing up to finally let you swap characters. You could already get a taste of what it's like to be Prompto or Gladiolus with their respective DLC packs, but Square Enix will soon let you swap to play as any of your party members at any point during the main game.
The upcoming feature was teased as part of a Square Enix livestream event (via Destructoid) marking the one-year anniversary of Final Fantasy XV, which offered a look at the past year of content releases and a peek at what's coming up. According to Square Enix, the feature will be added in a December update set to hit sometime before the next DLC pack, Episode Ignis, lands on December 13. Once available, you'll be able to take advantage of a menu that allows you to swap between characters at will, battling monsters during the main story with each character's own unique mechanics. Prior to this, Noctis, Final Fantasy XV's main protagonist, was the only character you could play as throughout the main campaign.
This is just the latest in what has been a pretty packed year for content additions to Final Fantasy XV. Square Enix has supported the game with a constant barrage of free feature updates, as well as paid DLC, which is something you don't always see from largely single-player experiences. Most recently, Final Fantasy XV ventured from its single-player roots with a multiplayer expansion, allowing players to adventure through the world with their real-life friends.
More DLC content is planned for 2018, as is Final Fantasy XV's arrival on PC.
