The single-player campaign for Gwent, the standalone version of the addictive card game introduced in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, has been delayed into 2018.
Aside from giving us an expansive story, The Witcher 3 introduced an addictive card game called Gwent. Gwent gives you and your opponent a set of cards which simulate battles. You must use certain warriors at the right time to win. Gwent got a standalone experience a few months ago but since then many gamers have been asking for a single-player expansion. While this may seem like an odd request, The Witcher lore is so vast that a lot of stories can be told through it.
CD Projekt RED have been working on the single-player component for a while now but it looks like they need more time to polish the product because they expanded it. Today, the developers said that the campaign would launch next year. In a post on the game's website, CD Projekt RED's co-founder Marcin Iwiński said the following.
We've decided to introduce changes to Gwent's development roadmap, and I'd like to take a brief moment of your time to share them with you... Thronebreaker, Gwent's story-driven single player campaign, is moving to 2018. We decided to increase the campaign's scope and need more time to work on it. Shifting release windows is always something we approach seriously, however, we'll never hesitate to do it if we feel you'll get a better game as a result... Secondly, since 2018 is the year we plan to take Gwent out of beta, we'll be increasing the tempo of multiplayer update releases. We want you to have more fun playing, but we also want to welcome new gamers into an already rolling multiplayer ecosystem.
While it's disappointing that Gwent's single-player has been delayed to 2018, it's encouraging to see the scope of the project increasing. Hopefully the wait will be worth it just like it was for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. We'll keep you posted as soon as we know more about the campaign's new release date. Until then, be sure to check out the game on Xbox One as it's a free-to-play experience.
