Every month The NPD Group complies the best selling games in the United States and discusses the gaming industry's health. The United States is always a good indicator as to how well a particular title is doing because it's the biggest games market in the world.
Today, the firm revealed which games reigned supreme during the month of October 2017. Surprisingly, Middle-earth: Shadow of War beat Assassin's Creed Origins to take the top spot. While Assassin's Creed Origins released many days after Middle-earth: Shadow of War, a lot of game sales occur close to launch so it's still a little surprising.
What's even more surprising is that Forza Motorsport 7 managed to make it into the top ten by beating Gran Turismo Sport. Again, Forza Motorsport 7 released towards the beginning of the month compared to Gran Turismo Sport which came many weeks later but it's still an interesting result nonetheless. The best selling games for October in the United States are as follows.
- Middle-earth: Shadow of War
- Assassin's Creed Origins
- Super Mario Odyssey
- South Park: The Fractured But Whole
- NBA 2K18
- FIFA 18
- WWE 2K18
- Madden NFL 18
- Destiny 2
- Forza Motorsport 7
November 2017's NPD results will be interesting because we'll get a better understanding of how some of these titles are holding up. In November, the results will also reveal how well the Xbox One X sold. November will also reveal how well Call of Duty: WWII stacks up against Star Wars: Battlefront II. Both games are probably going to dominate the charts for many months to come, despite the backlash against the latter.
