Recently many high-profile games have surpassed sales expectations. Three such titles are Assassin's Creed Origins, Call of Duty: WWII, and Grand Theft Auto 5.

This is great because not only does it reward the developers for their hard work, but it also sends a message to the studios that exceptional games are worth the effort.

Assassin's Creed Origins seems to be a beacon for the franchise because Ubisoft recently stated that the game sold double that of Assassin's Creed Syndicate in the first ten days. This information was revealed during the company's earnings call.

Ubisoft also said that just under of half of its revenue now comes from digital sales. A few days ago we reported that games like Destiny 2 sold more digital copies than physical ones. Sales of digital games were up 57 percent from last year and sales of digital add-ons were up 83 percent. This supports the hypothesis that console gamers are rapidly adopting digital distribution methods.

Activision sent out a press release in which they stated Call of Duty: WWII surpassed more than $500 million in sell-through worldwide in its first three days. This beats the combined opening weekends of films like "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Wonder Woman." Overall unit sales at launch doubled year-over-year globally, as well.

Lastly, Take-Two Interactive revealed during its earnings call that Grand Theft Auto 5 has now shipped over 85 million units worldwide. VentureBeat managed to compile the data. What's surprising is that last May it said the game's sales were at eighty million. Since then they've sold another five million units to retailers.

It's great to see these games doing this well. Hopefully the success of these titles will resonate with other studios and publishers in the gaming industry as well.
