Halo 5: Guardians already enjoys some of the best online networking available in multiplayer shooters, but if you want to get your latency even lower, Microsoft is working on a tool to allow users to create their own local-hosted servers on a Win 10 PC.

Buried in the Windows 10 Store is a new app dubbed "Halo 5: Guardians Local Server," and it will allow Halo 5 players to connect their Xbox One consoles directly to a Windows 10 PC, which will act as a dedicated server over a local network.

Microsoft announced the tools a few weeks ago, but the app's appearance in the Windows Store indicates that it should be ready for public consumption really soon.

The store listing describes the app thusly:

REQUIRES HALO 5: GUARDIANS ON XBOX ONE. THIS IS A TOOL FOR HOSTING LOCAL MULTIPLAYER MATCHES AND DOES NOT CONTAIN ACTUAL GAME CONTENT.

Halo 5: Guardians Local Server provides a new way to create, host and play custom multiplayer games in Halo 5: Guardians on Xbox One on a local network. Using this simple application, players can host a local server on a Windows 10 PC connected to the same network as Xbox One consoles for low-latency Halo 5: Guardians multiplayer matches.

Halo 5: Guardians' Local Server app is a nice shoutout to the LAN-heritage of Halo, giving friends, family, and even businesses the opportunity to create their own low-latency multiplayer matches.

We'll update you when the app itself is publically available, but the store listing indicates that it should be sooner rather than later.

Halo 5: Guardians is available now for Xbox One consoles for just $19.99 or free with Xbox Game Pass, complete with enhancements on the Xbox One X.
