World of Warcraft is stoking faction rivalries once again with its latest expansion, Battle for Azeroth.
Blizzard Entertainment has announced the next expansion for its long-running MMORPG, World of Warcraft (WoW). Called Battle for Azeroth, the upcoming expansion will shift focus from the demonic onslaught of the current Legion expansion to something much closer to Warcraft's roots: the conflict between Horde and Alliance.
According to Blizzard, the fall of the demonic Burning Legion has set off events that have helped to bring the opposing factions into conflict with one another once again. The battle is set to play out across two new continents, Kul Tiras and Zandalar, as players journey towards the new level cap, 120. A quick preview video of the expansion also teases new dungeons, raids, allied races, and uncharted islands to plunder.
In addition to the new expansion, Blizzard finally announced it will deliver on a feature that fans have long requested: classic servers. Currently in development, classic servers will offer nostalgic WoW fans a chance to play through the original launch version of World of Warcraft, which dates back to 2004. There's no timeframe for launch, but the experience should be welcome from WoW players pining for the old days.
Blizzard will have more to reveal about World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth throughout the rest of Blizzcon 2017. If the expansion follows previous patterns, we can likely expect it to launch sometime in 2018.
