Mass Effect: Andromeda was supposed to be the definitive Mass Effect experience, as it moved towards an open-region structure.
While the exploration and combat were great, the basic plot and performance issues heavily detracted from the experience. Even months later, it still stuttered on Xbox One. However, what was most upsetting to gamers was that fact that it left a lot of plot points unresolved. One of the most significant ones was the Quarian ark storyline. What happened to it?
For those unfamiliar with Mass Effect: Andromeda, it follows a group of human explorers as they try to find a new home in the Andromeda Galaxy. However, there are other beings on the journey too as each species has its own space ship, known as an ark. Everyone thought that the mystery behind the Quarian ark — another species trying to survive in Andromeda — would emerge in an expansion pack but that's not the case.
It looks like all of the questions will be answered in a book, since EA confirmed a few months ago that Mass Effect: Andromeda wouldn't get any more content. The Quarian ark was carrying thousands of other species so their fate remained a mystery until now.
According to BioWare, Mass Effect: Annihilation will chronicle what happened on the spaceship. It's written by Hugo Award-winning author Catherynne M. Valente. A pathogen is discovered aboard the ark after many individuals are found dead in their pods. As the pathogen jumps species, the ship's systems begin to fail, making it clear this is no accident. How is this resolved? You'll have to read the novel to find out. Annihilation arrives in United States, Canadian, and United Kingdom stores on June 26, 2018. It arrives in Australia on August 28, 2018.
If you haven't played Mass Effect: Andromeda yet, be sure to check out the game at retailers. Despite its problems, the game is an exciting sequel to the original Mass Effect Trilogy. Plus, the game is available at a substantial discount now so it's the right time to jump in. Currently, you can buy Mass Effect: Andromeda for $19 on Amazon.
