Splice

Splice is a trying little game for our Windows Phones. Splice is a rubik cube styled puzzle game (just in 2D) that has you maneuvering puzzle pieces around to connect two arrows of the same color with the puzzle piece segments.

There are over ninety-five levels of play with three degrees of difficulty. Splice starts out almost too easy but after the first few levels, the game begins to really test your concentration.

The main menu for Splice has options to jump into game play, access the settings, check in on the leaderboard, and view the credits. Splice's settings cover sound/music on or off and adding your screen name for the leaderboard.

The game board is a collection of puzzle pieces arranged in cube fashion. Puzzle pieces are labeled with various sections of pipes or lines that are used to connect the matching colored arrows that line up around the game board.

Depending on the level of difficulty the game board ranges in size from 3x3 to 4x4 to 5x5. Pieces can be moved into position by shifting the rows and columns horizontally or vertically.  Just remember as you move a row or column every piece in that row or column are effected.

The levels are unlocked progressively and start out a little on the easy side. Around level five, things begin to get a little challenging with multiple pairs of arrows that have to be connected and more pipe pieces to deal with.

All in all, Splice is a fairly enjoyable game that can be a little on the intricate side. The only downside side to Splice, asides from being stumped by some of the levels, is that the screen sensitivity seemed to be a little stubborn. There were times a rubber mallet wouldn't move the rows or columns. It's not enough to pull your hair out but can be a little frustrating when you're one move away from solving the puzzle.

Still, Splice is a decent puzzle game to give a try. There are two versions of Splice available in the Windows Phone Store. You have an ad-supported free version, Splice Free, that you can find here in the Store (left QR Code). Then there is Splice that is ad-free that is running $.99 that you can find here in the Store (right QR Code).
