Battlefield 1 is now giving console gamers a chance to help test patches before they're released.
Battlefield 1 has now made its Community Test Environment (CTE) available for console players on Xbox One and PS4. Previously only available for PC players, the CTE is now available for download for console players with a Premium Pass to the game (via Battlefield Bulletin).
The CTE is essentially a testing ground for new patches coming to the game. Having a public place for players to try out upcoming changes and balance tweaks helps DICE to ensure everything with the patch is on the level before it goes live. More importantly, it gives fans and players a chance to provide direct feedback that can impact changes coming to the live game. This isn't dissimilar to other major multiplayer games such as League of Legends or World of Warcraft, both of which have their own test realms of sorts on which to tweak patches and acquire community feedback before their release.
In any case, if you want to participate in the CTE on your console, you'll want to make sure you have plenty of free space. Battlefield Bulletin reports the download size for the CTE weighs in at just under 42GB on Xbox One. To get started, you'll want to head to Battlefield 1's main menu, where you'll find the "Community Test Environment" option under the "More" tab. Keep in mind that a Premium Pass is required to participate.
