Starcraft fans, it's nearly time to take a starry-eyed trip back to 1998. Blizzard has announced that Starcraft: Remastered, a revamped version of the original and its Brood War expansion, will go on sale on August 14 for $15.
As a remaster, this latest iteration of Starcraft is a modernization — rather than a complete remake — of the original game. The game features a graphical upgrade, 4K support, and much more. Here's a look, from Blizzard:
- Full graphical upgrade of the original StarCraft and the StarCraft: Brood War expansion
- Widescreen UHD support for up to 4K resolution
- New matchmaking and leaderboards
- Player profiles that track individual statistics
- Cloud saving for campaign progress, hotkeys, and replays
- Higher fidelity music and sound
- Switch between Remastered and the original StarCraft with the click of a button!
As someone who sank far, far too much time into Starcraft as an after-school addiction back in the day, I'm incredibly stoked to jump back into a slightly prettier version that stays true to the original in terms of gameplay.
If the remaster isn't quite your thing, you can pick up the untouched version of the original Starcraft directly from Blizzard for free now. Otherwise, you can pre-purchase Starcraft: Remastered on the Blizzard store, which also nets you some unique building skins.
