It's a new month, which means there's another big update for Gears of War 4 fans to check out. New in the May update are a couple of new multiplayer maps to dive into, the return of a Gears 2 hero, and more.
The first of the two new maps in this update is called Dawn. Designed by The Coalition, Dawn takes place in a mountain pass settlement that provides plenty of defensive structures to hid behind. Combining "tight corridors of combat with open spaces," Dawn looks to offer plenty of strategic choice with how you engage with enemies.
The second map, Security, is a holdover from the Gears of War 2 era. The revamped map takes place at a COG depository, where defensive lasers must be deactivated to reach important parts of the map. Gears 4 offers some major changes to the lasers, however. From Xbox Wire:
In King of the Hill and one of the key central rings on Escalation, the security lasers will only block the side entrances to the top sandbags to focus on opening flanks rather than blocking off entire areas. In addition, the lasers are activated in Horde when pressing the button (rather than disabled), offering a short defensive window that kills enemies as they try to run through it. Time your press just right to decimate groups of enemies getting too close to your base!
Aside from new maps, the May update also brings Benjamin Carmine, a character who met his demise in Gears 2, back from the dead as Zombie Ben Carmine in the month's Gear Packs.
Lastly, the Windows 10 version of the game now supports muli-GPU setups. So if you have a beastly PC loaded with multiple graphics cards, Gears 4 will now fully take advantage of your setup to push the visual performance even higher.
