Red is Death

Red is Death is a simple, somewhat challenging time waster of a Windows Phone game that has you tapping a button to keep the forces of evil at bay. It's not a very complicated Windows Phone game but one that will keep you on your toes. Red is Death is also today's AdDuplex HERO App.

Just in case you are new to Windows Central, the HERO Apps program is a promotional campaign for Windows Phone and Windows developers on the AdDuplex Network and partners AdDuplex with myAppFree, AppDeals, PluralSight and Windows Central to deliver a host of benefits to the top apps and games each month.

Our role in the HERO App campaign is to offer a little exposure to these titles by sharing them with you, our readers, and today we shine the spotlight on Red is Death.

Simple is a good word to use when describing Red is Death. There is a short intro scene that covers the rules of the game (which you can skip). From there you transition to the game's primary menu that displays your top score and skull points across the top of the screen and the option to start game play.

The rules of Red is Death follows the same theme of simplicity. You have a button on the screen that you tap when it is green and if you tap it when it turns red, the game is over. The more times you tap the button when it is green, the more points you earn. The game isn't one where you just rush in and tap the button as quick as possible. While that approach may get you into double-digit scoring, you'll need to pay attention to the outer ring of the button to further extend your scoring streak. The outer ring will turn red for a split second before the button turns from green to red. The button will remain red for a second or two and then return to green where you can resume your tap fest.

Red is Death

Red is Death does lack a proper help section and while the game itself isn't too hard to sort out, a help section could take the mystery out of a few features. There is a meter that runs across the screen, just above the button, that I'm not sure exactly what it does beyond being a distraction. I'm also not sure what the skulls are there for. Maybe a future update will let you use them to customize the game's appearance or buy bonus items to help you survive the game longer.

All in all, Red is Death is a decent Windows Phone game to pick up here and there when you only have a few minutes to waste. Red is Death scores a 4 Star rating in the Windows Phone Store and if you have given the game a try, let us know what you think of things in the comments below.

The HERO Apps promotion partners AdDuplex with Windows Central, myAppFree, AppDeals and PluralSight to provide additional benefits to the top apps every month that include:

  • Vouchers to advertise on AdDuplex
  • One month subscription to Pluralsight Plus
  • A featured campaign with myAppFree
  • A featured campaign with AppDeals
  • A review here on Windows Central

If you are a Windows or Windows Phone developer, you can sign up for the HERO Apps program here at AdDuplex's website. To participate in the program, you will need to apply within thirty days after your app or game has launched on the AdDuplex network.

Windows Central is already partnered with the myAppFree campaign and is proud to be partnering up with AdDuplex with the HERO Apps program. It is another excellent opportunity to help promote both the Windows Phone and Windows platform.

Keep in mind that the HERO Apps are different than what you find with the myAppFree deals. The HERO Apps are free, ad-supported titles that often have the option to remove the ad-support via in-app purchases. The myAppFree deal delivers a paid app or game at a discounted price or for free.
