Crimsonland, the popular top-down arena shooter from Finland-based developer 10tons that was first released for the PC in 2003, has made its debut today for Windows Phone and (Windows 8.1) as a universal app for $9.99.

In very basic terms, Crimsonland is an all-out action experience, with a few role-playing elements. You control a character who has to deal with waves of different enemies, including zombies, giant spiders and more, with a variety of weapons. As you shoot more and more monsters, you also increase your experience points and gain access to new weapons and extra "perks".

In a press release announcing the game's launch, 10tons CEO Tero Alatalo said:

"We're very excited to launch Crimsonland on Windows platforms. It's great to see Microsoft pushing great features like Universal App to benefit developers and customers alike, and the upcoming Windows 10 features are even more exciting."

This version of the game is actually based on the 2014 edition of Crimsonland, which includes revamped graphics along with new weapons, enemies and more. Here's a quick bullet point list of its features:

  • Quest mode with six chapters
  • Five survival modes: Survival, Rush, Blitz, Weapon Picker, and Nukefism
  • 30 unique weapons
  • 55 awesome perks
  • Up to four player local co-op on Windows version

While the game may cost $9.99 there is a free trial available for anyone who wants to see if they like the game before they buy it. Remember, if you buy the Windows 8.1 version you get access to the Windows Phone version for free and vise-versa.
