Baby Toy Phone is a Windows Phone game that turns your phone into an interactive toy phone for your toddler.
Available for low-memory Windows Phones, Baby Toy Phone has decent graphics, bright colors and a large collection of nursery rhymes that are played when your child makes calls from Baby Toy Phone. Obviously, this Windows Phone title isn't going to be for everyone but for those with small children, it comes across as a great attention getter.
The main menu for Baby Toy Phone is somewhat brief with options to access settings, start the game, rate the game in the Windows Phone Store and upgrade the game to the ad-free version ($1.99). Settings cover volume levels and a few playback options.
The keypad has the 1-9 keys brightly colored with a bottom row of keys with animal icons displayed. When the keys are pressed a musical note will sound and when your child is ready to make a call, they can press the Call button bar at the bottom of the screen.
When a call is made, a nursery rhyme will play and the screen will transition to a spotlighted animal that will bounce around the screen to the nursery rhyme. If you need to end the nursery before it concludes, there is an end button at the bottom of the screen. Additionally, if your child wants to change the animal spotlighted a series of buttons are available on the call screen to swap out the animals.
Beyond that, there is not much more to Baby Toy Phone. You do have ad-support with the free version that places an ad-banner across the top of the screen. The ad-banner is out of the way but I can see small children with developing dexterity hit the banner often.
Overall Impression
When my son was a toddler, one of his favorite toys was a toy flip-phone that made all the noises and even had a few pre-recorded messages. Baby Toy Phone is designed with that type of toy in mind and I can see toddlers having a blast with it. The game is a nice option to have in your Windows Phone Kid's Corner or maybe even installed on an extra Windows Phone you have lying around the house (would work great on a Lumia 520).
However, it can also drive the parent a little batty (as is the case with most toddler toys that make noise) and you will need to be careful that an ad-banner isn't tapped sending your child to a website. To be completely safe from this happening you will need to upgrade the game.
Baby Toy Phone does have brightly colored graphics, simply animations and an interface most tots can handle. Again, this game isn't going to be for everyone but after receiving a few requests we are trying to spotlight a few more Windows Phone titles for our younger crowd.
