A new report claims that the rumored acquisition of Minecraft developer Mojang by Microsoft could be announced by Monday, in a deal that could be worth up to $2.5 billion.
This report comes from Reuters, which cites unnamed sources. There is already speculation that Minecraft's creator, Markus "Notch" Persson, will depart Mojang after the buyout from Microsoft has been completed. Microsoft has had a massive amount of success with the Xbox 360 version of Minecraft, selling over 13 million copies. The company just launched a version for the Xbox One.
Reuters' story also has a ton of speculation from gaming and financial analysts that claim any purchase of Mojang by Microsoft could be designed to help boost Windows Phone, since iOS and Android ports of Minecraft have been highly successful as well. However, we want to point out that the statements in that story are indeed highly speculative and should be taken with a very large grain of salt.
Do you think Microsoft will get a good deal if it does indeed spend $2.5 billion for Mojang?
